The
combined Grand
Master's Class
Initiation and
Basketball
Tournament was held May 11, 2002 in
the Des Moines area.
The Basketball
Tournament was held at Carlisle
High School and the
Grand Master's Class
initiation at the
Des Moines Scottish
Rite.
The event
included the
basketball
tournament, lunch,
prime rib banquet,
the new Iowa
DeMolay pin, and the
initiation.
The
Basketball
Tournament was won
by the hard-driving
Black Hawk Chapter,
Cedar Falls with
stiff competition from a
variety of other teams.
The Tournament was
sponsored and staffed by
Za-Ga-Zig's DeMolay
Knights. A great
thanks from all the
players and advisors in
attendance!
The
tournament was followed
by a VIP Reception for
advisors and visiting dignitaries,
then a large banquet in
the grand dining room of
the Scottish Rite
building in downtown Des
Moines. The dinner
was prepared by advisors
Joel Schwendinger and
Kevin Smith, both
accomplished chefs, and
was spectacular -
featuring hand sliced
prime rib, Wisconsin
Cheddar soup and huge
baked
potatoes.
The
evening ended with the
DeMolay Degree, mostly
performed by Frank
Marshall Tournament
winners, Champlain
Chapter of
Boone.
Winners of the "To
the Hilt"
membership promotion
were also announced -
with Hawkeye Chapter
winning a brand new Play
Station 2 and Champlain
Chapter walking away
with a PS-One.
Most important, seven
new members were added
to the roles of Iowa
DeMolay.
