We're half way through the Swords and Shields membership drive and some people are taking advantage of this opportunity for their own chapter. No chapters have yet reached the goal of 12 members, but the competition is heating up. A hand full of chapters have brought in members pushing them ahead of other chapters. Who wouldn't want a big sword or shield to grace their chapter, to show off to all the other DeMolays in Iowa? Get those friends and neighbors to stop by the temple some night for a prospect party.

Plan a night where you guys show what DeMolay is all about and how it is a great way to meet new friends and have fun with all that your chapter and Iowa DeMolay provides. Another great way to impress your friends is by having a huge sword to show off to them, but that's for you to get. Prove to the rest of the state that your chapter has what it takes to be the best.

We have almost 1 month left to bring in those members you need to win the grand prize. Accept the challenge! Get out there, get excited, get members, and get a sword!

On February 28th, Cedar Rapids Chapter #10 went paintballing at an amazing place in Vinton. This indoor arena was nothing but the most intenseshort fights imaginable. With each gamelasting an average of less then ten minutes and then you add in the fact that we were there for eight hours; so it was pretty much almost endlesscombat. The close range fire fight in "the office" area was quite painful, but was worth it all when youshot some guy you didn't know with three balls at ranges of 15 feet or less (and watch him scream.) The only drawback of our event was that we only had one prospect. The event as a whole is easy to plan get a bunch of guys, go tothe field, rent guns, start shooting, and have fun. I know that any chapter is capable of doing something like thisevent, but I bet that any chapter could do better then we on the prospect partwith a small amount of effort.

May is LCC month, and a time of year when Iowa especially pushes it's members to get cracking on LCC's or leadership correspondence courses. This May looks to be one of the best yet. Here is some information on what you can look forward to on your LCC's.

  • There are 5 LCC's in DeMolay
  • They are all open book
  • Almost ever single answer is in the Leaders Resource Guide (The Holy Grail of DeMolay knowledge)
  • Here are the topics of the LCC's
    1. Basic Knowledge of DeMolay and Awards
    2. Same as 1st LCC but more advanced
    3. This is about "Hi Dad"
    4. DeMolay advanced knowledge
    5. DeMolay Leaders Resource Guide

That looks like a lot but their not hard and you can do them all in a relatively short amount of time. If you haven't taken an LCC before you should ask your chapter dad about it or an advisor. If you would like any other information regarding the leadership correspondence courses I personally would be more than happy to explain it to you or find out what you want to know.
