For those of you who don't know, Iowa DeMolay has developed a comprehensive chapter award program known as the Chapter of Excellence. This award has been in place since All Star 2003 and will help your chapter improve as long as you, the members, work for it. It consists of seven basic requirements including State Event Attendance; Iowa DeMolay University, Midwest DeMolay Leadership Conference, or Mid-American Leadership Training(OCT 17-19) attendance; PMCMSAs; Term Planning; Ritual Competition Participation; Advisory Council development; and Membership. You can check out the technicalities on the website.

Despite the tough requirements, many chapters are still in the running. There are only a few requirements left in the year including MALT attendance, Membership, PMCMSA, and Advisory Board Development and many chapters have already taken care of these requirements. If your chapter is still charging on towards that Excellence Trophy, DON"T STOP NOW!!! And if your chapter happens to have missed a few requirements, hop back on the horse and GO GET IT!!!

Champlin Chapter recently travelled to Washington DC for the Mid-Atlantic ritual tournament. For their first time being there they actually did pretty good. They got second in Inititagory Degree, Chapter Proficeny, and Preceptor Corps. But they did win in the championship division 9 o'clock interpalation with a 995 out of 1000.

Mike Gilbert, Master Councilor from Southgate, and Tom Bowersox, State Senior Councilor, joined Champlin on their journy and they competed in some individuals and I believe they both got recognition for scoring above 950. Besides the ritual tournament the chapter went on tours and did some site seeing. They visited the Scottish Rite's House of the Temple, the Nation's Capitol Building, and on Friday night they went to Hard Rock Cafe for dinner. Then saturday they had the ritual tournament and then went to ESPN Zone for dinner and then took a tour of the mall by the advisor of one of the Delaware Chapters who had a 15 passenger van and the tour guide was a Washingon DC chapter advisor.

The chapter saw: Washington Monument, Licoln Memorial, Jefferson Memorial, the White House, Iwo Jima Memorial, Arlington Cemetry, and Vietnam Memorial. All in all the chapter had fun and it was a great experience. So the next time you see a member congratulate them when you see them because even if they didn't attend the DC trip the whole chapter participated as a whole in the several different fundraisers.

The Iowa DeMolay webpage has several features for your exclusive use that could be highly beneficial in making your chapter activities better:

The Online Calendar is a useful tool to help inform people about your events. In addition to a Calling Committee, the online calendar can be used to inform your chapter members about meetings, fun nights, fundraisers and more. It can also be used to advertise your bigger events like dances, lock ins, you name it to other chapters and even rainbow assemblies around the state. There are plenty of uses for the Online Calendar. It's easy to use and everybody uses it.

Want to see pictures of you and your friends from summerfest? You can see them at the Iowa DeMolay webpage's Image Zone. Pete Grandgeorge, our website coordinator, does an excellent job of having those pics on the web and at your disposal before you even fully recover from the event.

Need a chapter dad's or state officers contact info? go to the state officers' page or chapters page and see how to get ahold of the people you need to get ahold of quickly.

Tools in General. The website holds other important information and materials you would want to complete the Representative DeMolay Award, the Chapter Of Excellence Award, a petition for a new friend, or even clip art to put together a slammin' flyer for your next dance! Want to show a friend what you do in DeMolay? GO TO THE WEB PAGE!!!

The Iowa DeMolay Webpage is easy to use and should be taken advantage of by every DeMolay with a computer. So visit the website: www.iowademolay.org

After Tailgate thier is no major state event until All-Star in Feburary. In this big gap of time alot of things can be done on the chapter level to benefit everyone. The biggest thing of course is membership, we have an oppurtunity to break the record for initiates in a year that was set by Shane Harshbarger and Company. Membership is key for the chapters, but you have to be willing to schedule fun events to get young guys interested. Playing hockey, having a dance, going to the go-cart track. Remember that it isn't all just for the initiates, you guys have fun at these types of events too!

Another huge thing to do is to make chapter visits with your advisors. Advisors are pretty nice people and would probably be more thna glad to help you schdule a trip to another chapter that is within driving distance for a school night. It gives you whole new perspective on how you all run your own chapters and you will probably pick up quite a few good habbits too. Just remember that chapter visits are not boring and think about how nice it is when other chapters visit yours.

No matter what you decide to do just remember that this is your organization and that you are capable of doing anything that you feel would benefit the chapter.
